Last Stop Kew Gardens

directed by Robert Lieberman

with Jerry Springer, Robert Schimmel, Josh Brand

with Filmmaker Robert Lieberman

Filmmaker, novelist and Cornell Physics lecturer Robert Lieberman takes us on a tour of his childhood home, Kew Gardens, Queens, a refuge for Holocaust survivors and their children, where German was spoken on the streets. "To me it had all the makings of an intriguing film: the tale of children born in the 40's and 50's, many to refugees from Hitler, and how they grew up in this tight-knit, hybrid community with its German-style delis and Viennese bakeries. As I see it, this film is the story of American and immigrant children living side by side - the local kids at home in the mainstream culture; the refugee children trying to fit in, yet weighed down by their parents' losses." (Robert Lieberman) Featuring interviews with many of the charming and, often, very successful former residents, including Jerry Springer and comedian Robert Schimmel, Kew Gardens explores a unique time and place in history. more at kewgardensmovie.com Video projection.
