Probably the most successful of all of the Marx Brothers' films in terms of gaggery and timing, Duck Soup features Groucho, Chico, Harpo, and Zeppo in some of their most famous roles, with Groucho playing Rufus T. Firefly, soon-to-be leader of the small country of Freedonia. "The greatest of the surrealy anarchic threesome's films (foursome, here), this is a breathtakingly funny and imaginative spoof of war movie heroics, with a couple of Ruritarian states going to war because someone calls President Groucho an upstart (anyway, he's paid a month's advance rent on the battlefield). Totally irreverent towards patriotism, religion (a song proclaims "We Got Guns, They Got Guns, All God's Chillun Got Guns"), diplomacy, courtroom justice, and anything even vaguely respectable, it also includes what is perhaps the brothers' funniest scene ever: an immaculately timed and performed sequence with a broken mirror in which Groucho, Chico and Harpo look absolutely identical. A masterpiece." (Time Out) Advance tickets available starting Monday, June 22, from the Cornell Cinema office, 104 Willard Straight Hall. From 9am—5pm, and the Willard Straight Box Office, from 7:40—8:30pm. Rain location: Willard Straight Theatre. Previous Terrace shows have sold out, so plan ahead!
